Piscean Reeds,
Winner of 2020 Scottish Nature Photography Awards - Abstract Category
"I had always thought the serendipitous arrangement of reeds resembling Pisces symbols and hieroglyphics in crisp January light was special. I had recently, if rather boldly, printed this image at size A0 (120x85 cm) and realised it had an impact more powerful in the flesh than it ever was viewed at screen size. I have found that in shooting abstract material that actually works in a “gallery” context is actually quite a rare event and so I regard this successful capture as a real prize"

My passion is for landscape, nature, documentary and cityscapes. I try to capture fleeting and lyrical qualities presented by any given subject.
My interest began while travelling and working in the oil industry in Libya & Vietnam. Returning to the North Sea I divided my time between offshore work and landscape photography. At this time I secretly shot oil rig life from the inside, culminating in my first book “On The Rigs” co-authored by "Bard of the North", Caithness writer George Gunn. Since then I have explored much of Scotland and certain overseas locations. Commercial activities include regional and thematic images as fine art prints, calendars and books. I also undertake documentary commisions and manage a sizeable catalogue of stock images. I love my work, it is my mistress, a way of life.
